Medical Malpractice at John Muir Medical Centers

John Muir Medical Center is one of the largest medical centers in Contra Costa County. It has two campuses - one in Walnut Creek and one in Concord. Together, they serve the community by providing orthopedics, cancer care, general surgery, cardiovascular care and high-risk obstetrical care. Their physician network is extensive and one of the largest networks in Northern California. More than 900 doctors are part of the John Muir physician network.

John Muir Medical Center was one of the only hospitals in the area to receive a stellar rating of an A in the Hospital Safety Grade 2020 report. They consistently scored better than average in protecting patients from infection during care. Their physicians and medical professionals have above average communication that helps to reduce medical errors at all stages of patient care. In 2018, both John Muir Medical Centers were named Best Regional Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. It was the 12th year in a row that the Walnut Creek medical center received this honor.

Yet even in hospitals like John Muir Medical Center, medical errors still occur. In 2017, it was one of the 769 hospitals that received Medicare penalties for medical errors. These errors ranged from infections to medication mistakes.

For years, patients at John Muir Medical Center have suffered a variety of injuries due to medical negligence. In one case, a young woman went into John Muir Medical Center in Concord to have surgery on her injured shoulder. The doctor had difficulty establishing an airway while putting her under anesthesia. The doctor broke her tooth and she aspirated blood. She went into Code Blue and died five days later.

At Corsiglia, McMahon & Allard L.L.P, we know that patients at John Muir Medical Center believe they are in the very best hands when receiving medical care. While this is often the case, there are times when doctors, nurses and medical professionals make grave and sometimes fatal mistakes. When this occurs, we believe in holding them accountable for their mistakes and for their negligence.

They must also accurately diagnose illnesses and begin the proper treatments to help reduce the chances of serious and life-threatening complications. When they fail to do this, patients can suffer serious and fatal injuries.
