Not All Medical Errors Happen in Hospitals – What Patients Should Know About EMS Malpractice

HospitalsMedical mistakes are generally associated with hospitals, but not all errors happen within the walls of a building. In fact, statistics suggest that around 82 incidents involving emergency response vehicles have occurred in the United States over the last 10 years. Granted, this is a significantly lower incident rate than those seen in hospitals, but that does not make these cases any less tragic for the victims or their families. Victims do have rights, however, and the following information can better help you and your loved ones understand them.

Understanding the Risks

According to a study from the Denver Health Medical Center, motor vehicle accidents were responsible for 72 percent of the claims against emergency medical vehicles. Medical negligence accounted for about 35 percent of all injury claims against emergency transport services. The latter incidents, though less common, show that patients may be at risk for experiencing a medical error that results in death or injury on their way to the hospital. Further, it shows that auto accidents involving an emergency transport vehicle could cause harm to patients as well.

Holding Responsible Parties Accountable

When the negligent actions of another cause harm or injury, they should be held accountable. Victims do this through a lawsuit that can provide them with compensation for any losses that they have experienced. Unfortunately, such cases are often extremely complex, and can be difficult for victims to pursue on their own. This is where medical negligence attorneys can help. Able to understand and decipher where things may have went wrong, they serve as advocates for victims and their families, fighting to help them get the settlement and justice that they deserve. An investigation is often a part of this process, as are medical experts. Of course, each case is unique, and other resources may be needed. Seasoned lawyers know have such resources and can provide aggressive representation.

My experience with Attorney Brad Corsiglia during my recent medical malpractice case was nothing short of amazing given the very stressful circumstances. I was fortunate to find Brad highly recommended from a mutual contact and from the very beginning of the process, Brad was truly engaged and knowledgeable in understanding my case and providing input on what avenues were available to me.
